Hinweis: Vereinfachte Darstellung. Für ISO/IEC 16022 konforme, scannbare Datamatrix-Codes empfehlen wir spezialisierte Bibliotheken wie bwip-js auf dem Server.
Why Data Matrix dominates industry
A Data Matrix 1 mm² can still reliably encode a 10-character part number — a QR code of the same content needs roughly 3× the area. Combined with strong error correction, it's the 2D code of choice when space is scarce and the surface is rough.
Frequently Asked Questions
Data Matrix vs QR code — which should I use?
Data Matrix is denser for small payloads (~10–50 chars) and better supported in industrial scanners. QR is ubiquitous on smartphones and handles larger payloads. For consumer-facing, use QR; for pharma/electronics/direct-part marking, Data Matrix.
How much data fits?
Up to 2,335 alphanumeric characters or 3,116 digits. Practical sizes for part marking are 10×10 to 24×24 modules.
What error correction does it use?
Reed–Solomon with ECC 200 — can recover 30% of the code if damaged. That's why Data Matrix is preferred for parts that get scratched, oiled or laser-etched.
Does pharma need GS1 Data Matrix?
Yes — EU FMD and US DSCSA require a GS1-formatted Data Matrix with GTIN, batch number, expiry and serial. This generator outputs a plain Data Matrix; GS1 application identifiers need specific formatting.
